CellStrat conference on Mobile Apps Conclave has, once again, showed the corporate players and the industry experts, the growth of the mobile apps industry in India. The recently held CellStrat’s Mobile Apps conclave 2012, (10th Feb’12 at India Habitat Center New Delhi)provided a wide platform for mobile applications and its future in India. During the first panel on “Mobile Apps go Mainstream,” an interesting comment was made by    Kalyan Manyam, CEO – MojoStreet was that mobile ad networks incentivize users to download apps and all this comes at a very low cost to the developer. Hence download numbers look good to the world but is wastage of money for developer for all the effort that has gone into app development as at the end of the day, revenues are not generated from these users. As per Anuj Kumar, CEO of Affle, biggest business opportunity for mobile Apps in India is in Android while the biggest challenge currently remains the discoverability of these apps). Panel also had Akrit Vaish, MD (India) of Flurry Inc., Puneet Singhvi, SVP – Intl. Business & Mobile Advt., Times Internet Ltd. and was moderated by Shyam Kamadolli, Director, Fidelity Growth Partners.

Mobile Showcase : Kall Ramanathan, Country Manager of Port Indigo showed how their soon to be launched, new innovative technology which combines habits of people with their moods will change the content access on all devices and make lives of consumers easier.

Mobile Apps & web – the jazzy new business channel: (InMobi’s Sukamal Pegu and his team showed what’s coming in the future in terms of mobile gaming/ social apps and augmented reality). Their demos and presentation were hugely appreciated by the audience.

Learning with Tablets & Mobile – Apps that transform education: (Prof. M. M. Pant, Founder of LMP Education Trust mentioned that teachers and students both should be involved in ideation phase of making educational apps. Without either, that app may be weak as finally it should be attractive to both the consumers i.e. teachers and students). He also mentioned that tablets’ current shortcoming – limited multitasking – could be their greatest asset in education, as it forces students to focus on one task at a time.

Mobile Apps Innovation: Abhishek Sinha, Co-Founder & CEO, Eko India Financial Services; Ankur Rohatgi, Head, Internet & Emerging Technologies Group, ILFS Education & Tech. Services; Harinder Takhar, CEO, PayTM; Veer Sagar, CEO, Selectronics India;and was moderated by Rajiv Kumar, Founder & CEO, Rocketalk. This panel discussed on what kinds of vertical apps are coming in the industry, which are most useful to the audience and how they are benefiting the consumer in general.

The rise of Superphones Tablets & eReaders: Mr. Anuraj Gambhir, Chief Advisor & Innovation Evangelist showed that how, Café Coffee Day’s outlets will soon have interactive touch tables, to engage customers more than ever before. Dr.Abhinav Mathur, CEO of Spice Labs mentioned that soon phones selling at Rs.1500 price points will have app store capabilities. Vivek Agarwal, CEO of Liqvid stated that in 5 years most Indian students will be learning through tablets. Gerri Kodres, VP of Fortumo gave interesting examples of how 25{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} doctors in US use iPhones as stethoscopes. He mentioned that in-app purchase started 4 yrs. back in USA but grew only 1.5 years back and though India has mostly free download of apps, but times will change and thus Fortumo is trying to build Indian telco relationships to be able to get western players in India.
