Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, along with China Mobile and other partners, jointly demonstrated an LTE TDD end-to-end solution for mobile HD video at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013. The next-generation mobile HD video solution utilizes HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding), DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) technologies and eMBMS (Evolved Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service). A wide range of LTE TDD terminals including smartphones, data cards, MiFi, CPE and tablets were also on display during the demonstration.
HD video services are expected to exceed 70{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} of all mobile data services in the near future. The increasing availability of smart HD terminals including large-screen smartphones and tablets has led to users expecting high-quality mobile broadband video services. Further improving business efficiency and user experience by optimizing network architecture and enhancing video capabilities has become crucial for realizing success with any end-to-end mobile video solution.
HEVC enhances network video capabilities and decreases video delay. It makes it possible to transfer 720p (1280-by-720 resolution) HD video with a transmission rate of 1 to 2 Mb/s, thereby improving the efficiency of mobile data transmissions. The eMBMS solution supports more simultaneous users watching downloading HD videos wherever they are while managing video ad pushes as well as movie trailers and other large video file content. This provides a better user experience and better commercial models for content providers and partnering companies.
Wang Tao, President of Huawei’s Wireless Network Business Unit, said:”Huawei will continue to invest in the LTE TDD industry. Huawei and China Mobile’s joint demonstration of HEVC and eMBMS video services is the first time we’ve shown the LTE TDD video solution to the world. Huawei expects to cooperate with more partners to continue developing the LTE TDD industry while realizing global commercialization for mobile HD video services.”
Huawei and China Mobile’s demonstration of mobile HD video services during Mobile World Congress 2013 made use of Huawei’s latest Ascend D2 smartphone, which supports GSM, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, LTE FDD and LTE TDD.
Huawei’s solutions for commercial LTE TDD deliver the best network performance, the best network convergence and the best end-to-end innovation for the best user experience. To date, Huawei’s strategic vision for LTE TDD has helped operators win continuing business successes throughout the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Europe and Africa.
