Statistics are always interesting to analyze. Here, Telecomblogs presents eleven charts of Indian Telecom Industry, carefully selected from monthly report of TelecomWatch, for the year Mar-09 to Feb-10. These stats are self-explanatory. Few facts to highlight about Telecom Industry in India:-
- From Mar09- Feb10, top 7 GSM+CDMA Telcos have added more than 100 million sub-base, accounting to approx 20{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} of total wireless sub-base in India.
- Except Idea, Tata & Aircel, all other four operators namely Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL & Reliance have reported loss of market share in last financial year. This fact is evident despite, there’s strong subscriber growth recorded by all of these top 7 Telcos.
- From July09 to Jan10, Tata Teleservices (GSM+CDMA) has recorded maximum number of subscriber additions per month, finally overtaken by Vodafone in Feb-10.
- Last year when we saw launch of disruptive tariff schemes like per-sec-billing, first by Tata DoCoMo & later by others, we can see now how effective it was for Telcos. We do believe that more than 100 million subscriber addition in a year wouldn’t be possible, had we stick to older tariff plans. Per-sec-billing has been boon to increasing tele-presence in India. If we look at the charts below, you can find out how Tata (GSM+CDMA) has clearly dominated the sub addition scene in later half of year 2009.
- In Metro, Tier A, B & C Circles, all operators have posted stronger subscriber growth. But Tata is little exception. After the launch of per-sec-billing in July-09, you could see the fortune of this operator changing drastically every month. In June-09, monthly addition for Tata was mere 138,00 but in July-09, after the launch of per-sec-billing, Tata saw monthly addition soaring from 228,000 in July-09 to 2,206,000 in month of Oct-09.
- In Broadband category, India has 80 lacs BB subscriber at the end of Feb-10, as compared to 58 lacs in Mar-09. In implies only 2 million BB subscriber additions during one year period. In Wire-line segment, we saw decline in sub base from 37.97 million in Mar-09 to 36.96 millions in Feb10.
