We (Indians) never got enough of Motorola Smartphones. Soon after launch of ‘RAZR’ series, it disappeared from Indian market. Although the company continued to launch DROID series in other markets, it has deliberately (?) avoided any major India launches.
After Apple has shown some enough seriousness about Indian Smartphone market in recent times, it’s time for Motorola (now part of Google), to gain lost ground here. So after launching mid-range ‘Moto X’ just couple of weeks back, Motorola’s new Android Smartphone, dubbed as ‘E’ (Economical?), is here in India. Flipkart‘s launching it tonight at inaugural price of Rs 6999. The best part is, India launch date coincides with phone’s global launch date. By the time, I finish this article some of you might have placed order already!
Although priced at lower bracket segment, the phone boasts some of best of class features set, which can only be found in either lower mid- range or mid-range Smartphone segment. Moto X, which is positioned as mid-range Android Smartphone, was also packed off some cool features, which only high end Smartphones are equipped with. Motorola (recently acquired by rival Lenovo) has been quite aggressively pushing high quality Android Smartphones at ‘value for money’ price to break-into the market, dominated by Samsung & Micromax at the moment.
I got some time to review key features of three smartphones, namely Moto E, Moto X & Mircomax Canvas Doodle 3. Except Moto X, other two can be pitted against each other directly, as both are positioned in lower end (Android) Smartphone segment. Micromax has two typical series of Android Smartphones in market, namely ‘Blot’ & ‘Canvas’. Blot, which is lower end Android Smartphone series, positioned at below Rs 5000 (<$90) price bracket, while Canvas series is priced above Rs 5000 (>$90). But here, Motorola has cleverly positioned Moto ‘E’ at a price, which targets Blot & Canvas series phones equally (and some other makers including Spice, Karbonn). I really doubt, there’s any best priced Android Smartphone with Qualcomm’s SoC & 1 GB RAM available in the lower price segment (especially between 6000-8000). And that’s where Moto ‘E’ is surely going to be real threat (challenger) to established players including Samsung & Micromax. The war is heating up!
