It’s official. Windows Phone 7 application market is bigger than Blackberry App market in size. As per latest released stats, Windows Phone marketplace has 60K active applications, as compared to 58K in BB App market. In fact, Windows marketplace is going strong since last month, adding 3k apps per week to its marketplace.
The report, published by Distmo, the mobile app analytic, points out that this is because of different strategy adapted by Microsoft & RIM in expanding their market apps. On one hand, MS is trying to expand app market to more new countries, RIM is offering Playbook tab to Android developers, who are submitting apps for Blackberry market till Feb 13. In fact, report also points out that, RIM has added more apps in last week, as compared to Windows phone market.
It’s too early to predict the winner of the race yet, but one thing is sure, after losing its 3rd place to Samsung recently in global mobile vendor tally, RIM is fighting hard to retain its advantage in App market. Race isn’t not over yet.
An interesting article gives insight into Microsoft’s App world strategy, where MS is working on user’s seamless experience on Smartphone usage, which is imbibed into Mango OS, released by Microsoft. It looks quite obvious that instead of focusing to reduce app number gap with Apple & Google app market, it would be better to focus on user’s experience on Smartphone usage. Quite interesting Microsoft!
