Airtel 4G Challenge and fallacy behind 'Lifetime mobile bills free offer'

Airtel 4G ChallengeRecently Airtel has completed rollout of its flagship 4G services to around 300 towns in India. Not sure, if anyone of you watched the advertisement surrounding the euphoria, but it is really cool to see how Airtel is making (or at least trying to make) most of its lead in launching high speed services.

However, apart from lead-time Airtel has got over its nearest rival (read Reliance Jio or Vodafone) I feel the advertisement is real paradox.

‘4G’ is advance high speed wireless broadband services, which is nearly five to ten times faster (at least in theory), vis-a-vis existing ‘3G’ services, offered by other operators and virtually as there’s no competition in 4G space, Airtel can always claim to be the best (and only) player in offering highest download speeds in the market.

As there’s no operator offering 4G services yet, offering lifetime mobile bills free makes so senses, as we aren’t looking to do apple to oranges comparison, but truly looking forward for apple to apple speed comparison (may be in near future).

In fact, the entire advertisement is based on demonstrating apple to oranges comparison (4G Vs 3G) with unknown rival network and proving the point. I am not sure, if Airtel would be in position to continue broadcasting the 4G Challenge (and lifetime free mobile bills), if Jio or Vodafone launches 4G services soon, which would also mean that we would be in position to do real apple to apple speed comparison (4G Vs 4G).

Has anyone really taken the challenge yet?
