As per latest released stats, the Finish handset maker, Nokia has 38{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} of global mobile handset market. But again that’s not too significant, if you find the rival Apple Inc, closing the gap, at 29{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} market share.

RIM, the ailing makers of Blackberry handsets, are no longer the third largest handset maker. Samsung, the South Korean giant, recently (Oct 2011) displaced RIM, to become the third largest mobile vendor globally with 15{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} market share.

If we talk only about India, then Nokia is far ahead of his closest rival, Samsung mobile, with more than 70{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} mobile market share, while Samsung holds 20{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} of mobile handset market. But there’re concerns to ignore. Nokia has lost more than 15{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} of its market to Samsung in just span of two years. In Mar-10, Samsung was struggling in Indian market with rivals such as Sony Ericsson & Nokia. Now after just two years, Sony has long gone, Samsung has clear lead and appears to be closing gap with Nokia.

In Mobile OS segment, Symbian OS leads with 64{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} of total market share in India, while Android’s market share is showing highest growth with captured market share of 6{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} in India. That’s too significant, if you consider that, Android was virtually non-existent in India, before Dec-2010.

Another significant aspect of StatCounter analytic study is that, mobile Internet usage is doubling every year since 2009. As on Jan 2012, mobile Internet usage was 8.3{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} as compared to 4.3{af589cdba9d77786c8c861317dbad60bba1e2ebbf56e2ffab874a1b59fde9ce3} last year. The interesting part of this percentage is that this mobile Internet usage doesn’t include usage from other mobile devices like tablets, laptops etc.
