If you look at India’s 3G Spectrum auction, which commenced on 9th April last month, almost every day, either a Western or Southern Indian State fetched top price. This is apart from Metro Circles like Mumbai and Delhi, which are bagging top honor. So earlier it was Gujarat for few days at start; then came Tamilnadu for brief and later scene was dominated by Maharashtra completely. Now as on 7th May update news is coming that Karnataka reached top spectrum price at 1200 Cr INR, surpassing Maharashtra and Tamilnadu. Whosoever bags top price among states, it seems that category ‘A’ circles are proving their worth. But why these states only? Why are they bagging top honor?
Below are revenue charts of top four Indian Telecom Operators at the end of Mar-10, namely Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Communication & Tata Teleservices. If you look at the charts closely, then you will find that for all of them, top 2G/2.5G/2.75G revenue (Voice+Data) is coming from these southern & western states. So it’s not surprising that these category ‘A’ telecom circles are getting top 3G spectrum price. It’s all revenue game!
